Academic Performance

STATE RANKING AND TEST SCORES

Western Hills Elementary School was last rated by the Texas Education Agency as an Exemplary School.

This past academic school year (2011-2012) the state mandated test was the STAAR Test.  The individual students scores are in, however the school's overall ranking and scores have not yet been reported.

 

GIFTED AND TALENTED (GT)

Western Hills does have a Gifted and Talented program for those students who qualify. Students are tested during the beginning of the school year.  Please contact the Counselor should you feel your child may qualify for this rigorous program.  

Students must qualify in five different areas to be eligible for the program.  Please see Guidance and Counseling for additional information.

Each grade level participates in an end-of-year showcase of the student's work.

 

SPECIAL EDUCATION

Our campus has two self-contained CRC classes for grades 1-5.  These classes help prepare students with independent living skills and readiness skills.

Student who qualify for Section 504 are accommodated on an individual basis to meet their educational needs.

 

BILINGUAL EDUCATION

Bilingual classes are available for grades K-5 at Western Hills. Students in these classes are identified as Limited English Proficient (LEP) by Texas standards and through enrollment documentation.  These students participate in the Accelerated English Transition Model.

 

RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION (RTI)

Students that are identified as needing additional support in academics may qualify for RTI assistance.
