Mrs. Lorie Byars
Hello, my name is Lorie Byars. I have been teaching for 30 years with the El Paso Independent School District. I graduated from Minot State University in North Dakota with a Bachelors Degree in Education and a minor in Reading. Then I received a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in both Early Childhood Education and Reading from UTEP. I just finished my thirteenth year as a Literacy Coach at Western Hills Elementary School. I jumped at the opportunity to go back into the classroom to teach third graders again. I am excited to work with a specific group of students and parents. I feel that it is an absolute privilege to be a part of the development of a child as he or she learns how to read and write! I believe that learning to read and write is one of life’s most important achievements. A student’s success in literacy development enhances learning in all content areas, helps create a love of learning, and also paves the way for a rewarding life. After all, we as Teachers want to instill the love of learning to our students so they too can become lifelong readers and writers.
